The nineteen-year-old son of country star Craig Morgan went missing following a boat accident in Tennessee. Recovery teams were immediately sent to find Jerry Greer. In a statement, Morgan and his wife had requested the media to respect their privacy. “The family is grateful for everyone’s support and prayers and requests privacy during this difficult time," the statement read.
According to Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Rod Edwards, the search began at 4 pm on Sunday, July 11. The two teenagers were tubing and then they had an accident on the Tennessee River. One of them surfaced but the other did not. "It was just as simple as hitting a wave and turning over and not coming back up," Sheriff Chris Davis said. It was also confirmed he was wearing a life jacket which brought the question of why did he not resurface.
On July 12 after an extensive search, it was confirmed that the dead body of Jerry Greer, Morgan´s son, was found. Greer had just graduated High School at Dickson County High. The family confirmed through a statement that Jerry had been found dead after going missing after the boating accident.
Morgan and his wife have four children together, including Jerry. The disappearance and death of their son is something that Morgan and his wife have kept private. However, the 51-year-old performer opened up to his grief in an Instagram by posting the following message:
The loss of our son Jerry is the hardest thing we have ever had to endure as a family,” he wrote. “Karen and I are so grateful for all of the wonderful people who have shown us unwavering support during this difficult time. We would also like to thank our friends, family members, and Jerry’s friends who have all shown us an immense amount of love and support.”
